My 08 Subaru Impreza WRX was having a shifting issue. The Brake Pedal was basically beginning to follow the clutch. So I took it to a trusted small name shop who have done right by me in the past. They told me the issue was the clutch pedal bracket spot welds that hold it to the firewall were coming out and that Subaru was issuing a Notification of intent. This repair required removal of the entire Dash and rewelding of the bracket. They told me I needed to take it to a Subaru dealer and Contact Subaru of America. So I brought it to Randy Marion. The clutch bracket was the only issue due to it making it hard to shift properly. The engine transmission and everything ran great, smooth and properly. They did work with me to do the repair and I picked it up yesterday. However, The service clerk informed me of a cylinder 4 misfire, and that I needed new spark plugs. The car has a horrible hesitation and when I confronted them about how this could have just appeared the clerk stated the following ” we don’t know when the spark plugs were changed and its required every 60k miles”. I responded that the engine ran great when I turned it in, and that now after they had it 2 weeks it has a magical misfire. The response I got was “it ran fine when we took it to the body shop, and ran fine when we brought it back, we put it all back together and test drove it and its when we first saw the misfire.” To me it seems extremely suspicious and if I do have any service done that’s even warranty or recall I will not be taking it here. I have already written Subaru on my Concern as well. As of 9/17/15 The Service Manager called me and requested what they could do to correct the issue. I told them the car went in there with a smooth running, no issues engine it needs to leave with one, it would be the ONLY way I’d be satisfied. Their response is to discuss with their General Manager and get back to me. *Updated* I personally replaced the Spark Plugs and when doing so found the plug on the Cylinder 4 Ignition coil about ready to disconnect, reconnected and the issue was corrected. The spark plugs were like new but I replaced them anyway. 106,117 miles and back to running strong Go Subaru.
