WARNING – Avoid this dealership’s service department!
I purchased a car from Randy Marion Subaru back in January, and within a week I started hearing water sloshing sounds when stopping. After checking, I discovered the coolant was almost completely gone. Come to find out, before selling me the car they had replaced a coolant seal but never refilled the coolant. The little bit that was left in the reservoir is the only thing that saved my engine.
Fast forward: I decided to do my own oil change but couldn’t remove the drain plug because the dealership had over-torqued it (likely with an impact gun). These plugs are aluminum and should only be torqued to ~30 ft-lbs — over-tightening risks serious damage. Since they had been servicing the car for the past two years, it’s clear this was caused by their work.
When I had them remove the plug and perform the oil change correctly, they overfilled the engine with 5 quarts of oil instead of the required 4.5. Too much oil can cause engine damage. I had to bring it back again, and then they drained out too much, leaving it underfilled.
If they can’t get the basics right — coolant, drain plug torque, and proper oil level — I would never trust them with any major repair. Save yourself the stress and go elsewhere.
